The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally.20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally 68% of them are trapped in forced labor. 26% of them are children. 55% are women and girls.

The current forms of trafficking are as follows; Sex trafficking Commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC), also referred to as child sex trafficking. Forced labor, also referred to as labor trafficking Bonded labor or debt bondage Domestic servitude Forced child labor Unlawful recruitment and use of child soldiers Trafficking in human organs

In 2016, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children estimated that 1 in 6 endangered runaways reported to them were likely sex trafficking victims. Globally, the International Labor Organization estimates that there are 4.5 million people trapped in forced sexual exploitation globally.

Slavery is found throughout California, but major hubs are centered on Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco. According to the 2011 Department of State report, California, together with New York, Texas, and Oklahoma, has the largest concentrations of survivors of human trafficking.
