Here is some information for you in order to prepare!  Sophomores, registration for next year’s classes will be beginning soon! The IHS counselors will be meeting with you on February 8th- 13th through World History classes. Here is some information for you in order to prepare! 

Academic & Course Catalog The Academic & Course Catalogs are online Academic & Course Catalog The Academic & Course Catalogs are online! You can find the complete 2018-19 Academic Guide and Course Catalog online on the Frisco ISD website at:

Plan Carefully Some classes have prerequisites. Consult the course catalog and plan your schedule carefully. Example of a prerequisite: You must take Medical Terminology before you can take Health Science I. Pay attention to what you must first take in order to get to your ultimate goal. This is very important for CTE classes! 4

Want to learn more about the CTE programs? Ag., Food & Natural Resources Education and Training Business Management and Administration Information Technology Health Science Gov. & Public Administration Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Hospitality and Tourism Architecture and Construction Marketing Finance Art, AV Technology & Communications 5

How Many Credits are Required to Graduate? A student needs 26 credits in order to graduate. A half-credit is earned each semester for each class passed with a 70 or above average. Next year, as a junior, you must take a minimum of 6 classes (most juniors still decide to take 8). 6

Your Graduation Plan Requirements: Sophomores PLEASE REVIEW: Your Graduation Plan Requirements: 4 credits each year of all core classes: English, Math, Science, Social Studies 2 credits of Foreign Language: Spanish, French, Chinese 1 credit of PE 1 credit of Fine Art 1 credit of Technology .5 credit of Health .5 credit of Speech 4 credits of elective classes Total credits needed for graduation: 26 Log into HAC…check transcript for graduation requirements!

Promotion to 11th Grade To become a junior, you must have earned at least 12 total credits before the beginning of next year! 8

Information Technology, Finance, Architecture, Ag Science Sophomores must also earn an Endorsement during high school (by taking classes in one (or more) of these areas: Arts & Humanities Political Science, World Languages, Cultural Studies, Literature, History, Fine Arts Business & Industry Information Technology, Finance, Architecture, Ag Science

Endorsements continued STEM Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics Public Services Doctor, Nurse, Criminal Investigator, Law Clerk, Teacher, Athletic Trainer All IHS students will earn a Multi-Disciplinary endorsement by taking the 4 core classes each year. Additional endorsements will be earned simply by the classes you take in high school.

What is the AP CAPSTONE Program? AP Capstone is a two year program comprised of two AP courses — AP Seminar and AP Research — and is designed to complement and enhance other AP courses. Both courses focus upon college-level composition, analysis, and research. AP Seminar can be taken as a sophomore or junior. It will count as an additional social studies credit. Group work is a huge part of the class. AP Research expands upon the research and writing opportunities explored in Seminar and culminates in a major research portfolio and essay. *The AP Research course is recommended for students who are entering their senior year of high school.

Earning a AP Capstone Diploma In order to earn the AP Capstone Diploma™, students musts earn scores of 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research exams, and also must earn scores of 3 on four additional AP Exams of their choosing. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.

Check your potential college’s AP credit policy This year is a good year to start researching colleges and universities that offer credit or placement for AP scores. You should research this in advance. https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/search-credit-policies

Class Rank/GPA Your updated class rank and GPA, which will include 1st semester grades calculated in, will be posted for 10th graders to Family Connection and HAC in mid-February. 14

Remember….keep a good balance! SO IMPORTANT!!  In order to have a happy, healthy mind, you need to have balance in your life.  Too many PAP and AP classes can cause you to lose sleep and become anxious.  There are only so many hours in a day that you are not in school.  You need to keep a balance between school and downtime in order to be able to function.  Just because your friend is doing something doesn’t mean you have to do it, too.  Grades are important, but are not all that colleges are looking for! 15
