ENGLISH MATHS & SCIENCE. Downs Junior School Year 5 Homework Grid Movement and Motion 5 week topic, complete at least 4. OPTION 1: CREATIVE ARTS. Art Deco Look at some images of Art Deco. Do you like this style? Can you think of any Art Deco buildings you have seen in Brighton or nearby? Design a 1930s Art Deco inspired outfit. or a 1930s Art Deco cityscape. Graphic Design Create a graphic novel of your own. Try choosing a hero for your story and a problem that they need to resolve. Lights, Camera Action Make a stop motion film or animation. You could use Lego, models you have made, or pictures you have drawn. You can choose what your animation is about or try to show off some scientific knowledge about Forces. Philosophy for Children Technology improves the world. What do you think? Give some reasons for and/or against this statement.   OPTION 2: Magic Moments – by Monday 29th January Learn a card trick or a magic trick that you can perform to the class (if you want to) or your family. Create a ‘how to’ set of instructions for your trick to teach it to someone else. Times tables challenge Take a pack of playing cards and remove all the picture cards including the aces. Then shuffle the pack and split it into 2 piles - one for you and one for your child. Like "Snap", each person deals a card and the learner shouts out the correct answer. If they get it right they keep the cards, wrong and the dealer gets them. Measuring madness by Monday 5th February Calculate the area and perimeter of various rooms or items (e.g. cereal box, desk, garden, bedroom) in your house. Record what units you measured in. How might you measure a room which is not a square or rectangle shape? Take some photos or sketch out what you have measured. Research (choose 1) 10 facts and figures about the film industry. Create a fact file for a modern actor/film star How has film changed between 1930s and now? Create a life story or a biography of a historical film maker e.g Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton. Fun with Forces Build and test a straw rocket. How far can you make it move? We also ask you complete at least one other English or Maths task alongside other homework of your choosing. Trips can be documented in photo form as well as anything else mentioned in the task. Alongside these tasks we still expect daily reading of at least 20 minutes, preferably to an adult, as well as completion of the weekly spelling tasks and regular times-tables practice.
