Our 1st Grade Classroom News Week of February 5th – 9th Email: valorietrombley@johnston.k12.nc.us Important Information Dates to know * We are so excited about our upcoming Science Unit on Embryology! We will have the opportunity to hatch our own eggs beginning next week as we learn about the life cycle of a chicken! * Friday, February 16th is the 100th Day of School! We will celebrate with center rotations and writing about our life if we were 100 years old! We will extend this activity by dressing up like we are 100 years old on the 16th too! Examples: canes, walkers, gray hair buns, glasses, etc. 2/7: Report Cards 2/14: Valentine’s Snack at 2:15pm 2/16: 100th Day of School 2/19: Early Dismissal 2/28: Progress Reports go home! 3/1: Spring Pictures 3/2: RES Spirit Day 3/8: Field Trip 3/28: Early Release & End of 3rd Quarter 3/29 – 4/8: No School for students 4/13: RES Spirit Day Our Learning Focus Theme: Dental Health Math: We are beginning our new unit on place value, addition and subtraction with 2 digit numbers, & solving word problems. Phonics: blends, digraph blends, and R-controlled vowels (ar, or, ir, er, ur) Reading Focus: Describe the connection between two individuals, events, or ideas. Writing Focus: Informative writings that include topic, facts, & closure Science: Earth, Moon, & Sun + Embryology Words to Remember WWW: in, that, with, on, this, had Word Families: -old, -on, -ost
