Area of a square This donut shop sign has a side length of 3 feet. What is the area of the sign? If we know this is a square, then we know all sides are the same length. If one side is 3 feet, then all sides are 3 feet. To find the area of a square or rectangle, multiply the length and width of the shape. 3 x 3 OR 3² The area of the sign is 9 feet 3 ft.

At your birthday party you see a HUGE cube present on the floor. If it’s packed with Legos, you’re wondering if they’ll all fit in your toy box. You measure one side of the present before your mom catches you and tells you to stop. Now you have to do the math. Will the possible Legos inside the big cube present all fit in your cube toy box? 4 ft.
