STANDARDS: UNIT FOUR MGSE6.EE.1. Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents. Essential Question: How do you write Prime Factorization of a number?

Finding Factors for a Number A prime number is a number with exactly 2 factors, 1 and itself, and a composite number is a number that has more than 2 factors. Whole numbers that are multiplied to find a product are called factors of that product. A number is divisible by its factors. For example, 4 and 2 are factors of 8 because 4 · 2 = 8, and 8 is divisible by 4 and by 2

Do Now: 01-17-18

vocabulary Algebraic Expression Associative Property of Addition Associative Property of Multiplication Constant Distributive Property Exponents: The number that indicates how many times the base is used as a factor. Like Term Order of Operation: PEMDAS Term Variable

PEMDAS: Graphic Organizer Title: Exponents and Order of Operations Label : Base , Power and Exponent Label the six operations in different colors. Solve the example using each operation and list the rules like shown in the picture.

Order of Operations 1. Perform operations in parentheses. 2. Find the value of numbers with exponents. 3. Multiply or divide from left to right. 4. Add or subtract from left to right.

Example 14 + (18 ÷ 2) x 18 – 7=

1.12(2 + 7) – 24 ÷ 12 2. 4(9 – 3) ÷ (8 – 2)

3. 26 – [ (25 – 11) – 23] 4. (82 – 25) ÷ (24 ÷ 6) + 32

Finding Prime Factorization of a Number: Find the Prime Factorization 144. Method One: Prime Factorization Tree Method Two: Ladder Method

Method One : Prime Factorization Tree 144

Method two : ladder method 144
