Math Rounding

Use rounding When the question asks you to estimate. “about how many”…? When an exact answer isn’t possible.

Memorize this Poem Find your number. Look to the right . 4 or less, you’re alright. 5 or more, just add one. Add your zeros, now your done. BUT WAIT!! Don’t forget to copy the numbers before it!

Round this number to the nearest ten thousand. 368,971 Find your number. 3 6 8,9 7 1 Circle the number in the ten thousands place.

Round this number to the nearest ten thousand. 368,971 Look to the right. → 3 6 8,9 7 1 Draw an arrow to the right of the number.

Round this number to the nearest ten thousand. 368,971 4 or less, you’re alright. 3 6 8,9 7 1 8 is larger than 4 so go to the next line of the poem.
