2017-2018 Welcome to Our Title I Annual Parent Meeting Northside Elementary September 21, 2017

What is Title I? Title I, Part A is a federal program (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) that provides federal funds to assist school districts and schools with high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Northside Elementary, as a Title I school, received $315,558 for the 17-18 school year.

How did we decide to use these funds How did we decide to use these funds? We developed a Title I School-wide Program Plan.

We analyzed our latest academic, discipline, and attendance data. We determined the areas of greatest need. We looked for barriers that prevented our students from making the achievement they needed. We developed the following strategies:

Strategy 1: Provides opportunities for all students to meet the standards by purchasing supplemental materials for classrooms, providing hands-on experiences, purchasing electronic devices for classrooms to extend instruction, providing targeted small group instruction, communicating effectively with parents and providing opportunities for parent involvement. Expenditures: Intervention Teacher, Paraprofessionals, Classroom Materials, Copier Rental, Field Trips, Academic Consultants, Robotic Kits and Add on Pieces, Technology Devices, Electric Pencil Sharpeners, AA Summer Hours, Stipend for Parent Teacher Conferences, Digital Communication, Stamps, Handbooks/planners, Parent Workshop Supplies

Strategy 2: Provide wrap-around services to addresses the needs of students by providing counseling, school based mental health programs, implementation of a school-wide tiered model to prevent and address problem behavior, connecting families to community resources and making calls to check on students after absences. Expenditures: Behavior Specialist (2.5 days a week) Behavior posters Parent Liaison

Leadership Team Supplement SIP Academic/Behavior Planning Strategy 3: Strengthen core instruction by providing professional development for teachers, paraprofessionals and other school personnel to improve instruction and use of data from academic assessments to drive instruction. Expenditures: Leadership Team Supplement SIP Academic/Behavior Planning Subs for Leadership SIP Days BCRA/Model Schools Conferences Professional Development Supplies/Books

Our School-wide Program Goals The number of students proficient in reading will increase by 2% from 2017 FSA to 2018 FSA. The number of discipline referrals will decrease by 5% from 16-17 to 17-18. The number of chronically absent students will decline by 2% from 16-17 to 17-18.

You can help us reach these goals!

Research has proven that parent involvement has more impact on student achievement than any other factor!
