FLOOD AND STORM WARNING SYSTEM INTRODUCTION Forecasting: by Hydro-Meteodology Service - Storm: Line tract, Intensity, Time - Flood: Hmax and Time in main Gauges Warning: by Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control Warning issure: + Forecast news + Respond activities Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System

EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Increasing trend of warning effectiveness: - Government attention:issued policy for strom and flood control as Storm warning regulations, Ordinance on Storm and Flood control, Ordinance on Dikes and others. - Increase of Public Awareness - Modern technology - International relations and new technology transfer (Internet, Conference…) Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System

EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Specific results Flood in the Sorth of Vietnam: Applied the flood inundation map to warn the duration of flood transmission and inundation for following actions: - Evacuation in depth and damage area. - Storage of food, medicine and necessary goods. - Building the safe places for children during flood season for most vulnerable areas. - Havest crop - Protecting the fruit-tree and densely populated area by embankment. Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System

EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System

EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Specific results Storm in the North of Vietnam: Warning issue for: - Observed Storm / Remote Storm. - Nearby Storm. - Emergency Storm. - Landing storm have contents as follows: - Storm track - Activities to respond the storm Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System

EFFECTIVENESS OF EARLY WARNING SYSTEM Fishing boats in the sea that come back or find shelter or escape from storm-effected area; do not determinelly permit fishermen in the boat; arrange the plans to respond to the storm Ensure the safety of peoples in low land, estuary, coastal area and aquaculture area. Execute measures for safety of dike system, structures under construction Evacuate the hourseholds in high risk of landslide, flashflood Hazard Map and Flood, Storm Warning System
