Copyright issues There are 8 different types of work in which copyright applies; literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, typographical arrangement of published editions, sound recording, films and broadcasts and cable programs. The owner of the copyright on a piece of work is normally the individual or collective who created the work. If you want to use a certain song that is copyrighted you would need to speak to the management or the person who owns the copyright to the song. If you are found using copyrighted material you may be able to assert an defence to excuse your unauthorised use of copyrighted material. This typically does not excuse you from using his copyrighted material.

Location release Release Form is used to protect both the location owner and the production company from any confusion that may arise regarding the production location. The Location Release Form outlines when a location will be used, the dates of use, an insurance agreement, and an acknowledgment of liability. Typically a Location Release Form will be filled out well before the day of the production. It is also advised that you have a copy of the Location Release Form with you on the day of production. It will help you if any disputes come up regarding your right to shoot in the given location. You need to apply for the permit in advance. If you don’t have a location release form you could get sued for filming on private property. If its government property you could get fined.

Copyright with audio Many videos especially YouTube videos gat taken down for using copyrighted music or audio. Many of the people creating the video don’t realise that the audio is copyrighted until it is taken down by the YouTube company. So what video creators have to do is to us un-copyrighted audio from websites that audio creator allow their content to be share for free or the video creator has to seek permission from the owner of the audio to use their audio; they may have to make a payment for the amount of time they will be using the sound for.
