Common mistakes and how to fix them Research Essays Common mistakes and how to fix them

Proper nous: Names, Locations, Dates, Titles Common Errors Capitalization Proper nous: Names, Locations, Dates, Titles EX- African American, W.E.B. Du Bois, April, Alabama etc. etc. WRITE THIS DOWN

Common errors Spaces between words, sentences, and commas and punctuation in general. (please stop!) Your sentences should look like this, there should be NO spaces between commas, periods, or quotation marks Do not put spaces between brackets when using citations, your citations should NOT look like this ( Smith ). They should look like this (Smith). Do not put spaces between sentence end and period or commas . Just , don’t , do , it! WRITE THIS DOWN

Each paragraph should have ONE topic Common Errors ORGANIZATION!! Each paragraph should have ONE topic If you start writing about a NEW topic, you need a NEW paragraph Make sure the order of your essay makes sense, it does not make sense to talk about Hughes’ poems, then his parents, then his poems again. Keep like topics together so that your paper flows nicely. Use transition words! (example: Therefore, However, Furthermore, Also, In addition,) These tie your sentences and ideas together in a paragraph WRITE THIS DOWN WRITE THIS DOWN

What’s wrong and right about this?! GOOD- -VERY well written -awesome use of vocab words (extravagant) -Proper format for block quotes -Concise, to-the-point writing without leaving out details -proper use of possessives

Title Page: Perfect example! Title that is NOT just the name of the person you are writing about. Proper spelling on all names. English III typed correctly Spacing and font is correct

Citation: Perfect Example! Quote is typed out word for word from the article/website. Directly after the entire quote the author’s last name is in parenthesis. Punctuation AFTER the brackets.
