Presentation transcript:

Website Digital Sketchbook Tammie Beech As a part of the Unit 7 production, we had to produce a website portfolio as if we was a freelanced journalist displaying our work. We had to use a grid layout with a grid of 9 with either images or articles displaying our best productions.

MOODBOARD Looking at all of these websites (tumblr, instagram & pinterest) we can see that these are mainly image based with either a grid layout or a single column layout. My favourite for a personal portfolio is to use a grid layout as it looks clean, effortless and efficient.

Names for website As my website is a personal portfolio design, I named it after myself as possible employers can find my work easier that way on a search engine. I also included a tag line to individualize my website from others and to show what I can offer. However, I chose a random tag line as this was only for practice.

Looking at an example of a layout… This is an account on instagram of a lady who uses the website Instagram as a portfolio of her photography work. We can see all of her images easily and clearly as they are neatly organised via instagram’s grid layout as well as giving the personal information about herself that she has provided above the grid. I took this as inspiration to my own work as I wanted to display my photojournalism productions and found that using a grid layout is the most effective way as it allows the viewer to get an insight of your work quicker than a single column layout. I loved the way this portfolio has a colour scheme to the images with all of them being quite faded and grey images. However, I decided to take having a colour sceme in her portfolio as inspiration for mine by having a bright and tropical colour sceme.

Style sheet research I have created a style sheet in order for my website to look consistent and professional on every single page. You could also call this your ‘house style’ which is a constant theme such as colours, font etc. on every single page. Here is my style sheet. The colour white is the websites background, the text is black, and the accent is the burgundy. I have chosen these colours in order for the website to be easy to read, but also for the accent to stand out and look quite classy and professional. The header image on each page will always be filled with an image.   I chose the Franklin Gothic Medium Cond for the heading and sub heading font as it is bold, easy to read as it is a san serif font and will grab the readers attention instantly. I chose to keep the paragraph text in a simple Calibri (Body) font as this is the typical paragraph font on most websites that readers are familiar with.

Rule of 3 This is the most conventional layout for a website that has a masthead, menu bar to help navigate around the website as well as the content such as the images. This is one of the most popular used for a website as it is easy to use and displays at least 3 pieces of content on the home page allowing the viewer to get a feel for the website.

Hero Image (Slider) Likewise to the conventional ‘Rule of 3’ layout, this is just the more modified layout allowing creator of the website display more content. As all websites, it has a masthead, a menu bar to navigate around the website and content.

Grid This is a grid layout which typically has 6 boxes of content on each the home page which is the most useful for a personal portfolio in my opinion as it allows the reader to view multiple amounts of your work at once which is more likely to attract potential employers. Like every other website, it has a masthead and a menu bar to navigate around the website. This is my personal favourite for a website, especially a personal portfolio as it is visually pleasing and easy to use.

My Website For my website I decided that i wanted to create a conventional grid portfolio in order for me to display photojournalism work for potential employers as from looking at other’s portfolios, I preferred the look of this as it is easy to display and navigate which would be more successful if a potential employer was to look at my website to view my work rather than if it has a complex layout. Although I didn't have to use any of my own images as this was only for practice as a part of my unit 7 production, I still used Pexels to gather some images that I loved the look of that was around a theme of my choice – being travel. I also didn’t have a professional tagline to my website because as mentioned above, it was only for practice to show my skills using muse to create a website.
