Lab Equipment
2 3 beaker- used to hold, pour and measure liquids Erlenmeyer flask- used for holding, storing and heating liquid graduated cylinder- used to measure volume 3
5 petri dish- used to hold and/or examine small objects funnel - used to pour liquids into containers with small openings
7 8 test tube- used for holding and heating liquid chemicals test tube brush- used to clean test tubes 8 Test tube holder (tongs) - used to hold test tubes while heating
magnifying glass(hand lens in laboratory contexts) a convex lens used to produce a magnified image of an object. 10 striker – used to make a spark that will light a Bunsen burner.
test tube rack- used to store test tubes, either dry or containing liquids 12 dropper-used for adding liquids one drop at a time
Bunsen burner - uses gas to produce a flame for heating 13 Bunsen burner - uses gas to produce a flame for heating ring stand – used for holding and heating beakers, test tubes and flasks (has a test tube clamp and an ring clamp) 14 15 thermometer –used for measuring temperature
double pan balance – used for comparing the masses of two objects or for calculating the mass of an object 17 triple beam balance – used for calculating the mass of an object 18 spring scale – used for measuring weight or force
20 Crucible – used to heat small amounts of solid material at high temperature. 20 Watch Glass – used as a beaker cover or used to evaporate Small amounts of liquid
Wire Gauze - to protect the bottom of a beaker or flask from flame; to support a beaker or flask on a ring clamp. 22 Tweezers – Plucking or handling small objects. 23 Safety Goggles- protect your eyes from harmful chemicals or broken glass
Glass Stirring Rods – Mix chemicals and liquids for laboratory use Beaker Tongs - tongs used to transport a beaker without having to have the beaker come in contact with your hands. This is to prevent you form getting burned by a hot beaker or by a chemical spill. 25
