Hiv/AIDS By:Gage and ronan

What is HIV and AIDS HIV is virus that attacks the immune system. If untreated, a person’s immune system will eventually be completely destroyed. Aids is a set of symptoms and illnesses that occur at the very final stage of HIV infection.

What is a virus? How does a virus reproduce? A virus is a biological agent that reproduces inside the cells of living hosts. When infected by a virus, a host cell is forced to produce many identical copies of the original virus at a fast rate. A virus reproduces by attaching itself to a specific host cell then the virus injects its genetic material into the host cell. The host cell then uses the genetic material to make new viruses. Then the host cell splits open, releasing the viruses.

Where did HIV/AIDS come from? HIV/AIDS came from chimps to humans in the 1920's in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.

How is it contracted? HIV/AIDS is contracted by open skin wounds needles, also by sexual intercourse.

HIV/AIDS first? In the US? What are the symptoms? The world’s first known case of AIDS has been traced to a sample of blood plasma from a man who died in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1959 Louis, Missouri was the first recorded case in the US of HIV/AIDS. The symptoms are flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and fatigue can occur.

How long can it take to develop into AIDS. It takes about 5-10 years

How many people have died worldwide? About 35 million people have died of HIV/AIDS worldwide.

How many people are infected worldwide? There are 36.7 million people that have HIV/AIDS worldwide.

How many have died in the U.S.? 12,333 deaths have occurred from HIV/AIDS in the U.S.

Famous people that have died from HIV/AIDS Some famous people that have died from HIV/AIDS is Easy-E Liberace and Freddie Mercurey.

Famous people that have HIV/AIDS is Some famous people that have HIV/AIDS right now is Charlie Sheen and Magic Johnson

Some things you can do to avoid infection. Some things you can do is not share needles and have safe protected sex,

Treatments/Medicines Treatment there is not cure for HIV/AIDS but adherence to anti- retroviral regimens can dramatically slow the disease's progress as well as prevent secondary infections. Some medicines used are Ziagen, Videx, Zerit and Retrovir are all used to help slow HIV/AIDS

In conclusion Many people in the world are affected by AIDs and there is still no cure. This is a big problem that needs to be solved. In 2016, there were roughly 1.8 million new HIV infections that’s a lot of people that are contagious and could spread it to others which could make the numbers increase. I think HIV/AIDS is a huge and serious issue that needs to cured.
