Presentation of the Problem—10 minutes Overview of the problem: GPSTEM is a statewide consortium of the 15 community colleges. We’re developing several websites that are targeted for statewide impact—one for PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) and one for students to explore STEM career pathways and to connect to education/training programs at the community colleges in their targeted fields. So our questions are not so much to do with promoting programs at individual colleges, or connecting with local workforce agencies, but how to create a statewide presence. The questions we have for you are: Who are the key constituencies we should seek to reach? What are the most effective forms of media these days? Given our limited people-power and resources, what are some of the ways grantees have gotten this work done?
Clarifying Questions—5 minutes Do you have any clarifying questions? Are there any facts that you need in order to brainstorm solutions?
Probing Questions—5 minutes Do you have any questions that could help the presenter think about the problem in a new light?
Group Discussion—15 minutes Discussion may address: What did we hear? What didn’t we hear that we needed to know more about? What thoughts do we have from our own experiences that might inform this dilemma? What do we think about the question and issue(s) presented?
Group Discussion (cont.)—15 minutes Warm feedback examples: What are the strengths in this situation? What’s the good news here? Cooler Where are the gaps? What isn’t the presenter considering? General I wonder what would happen if ...? I wonder why . . .?
Presenter Responds—15 minutes The presenters may respond to what they’ve heard during your discussion and everyone can discuss the problem and potential solutions.
Reflection—5 minutes How has the consultancy experience been for you? Do you have any observations to share about the process, or the results of the process?
