“NIH Resources: Perspectives of a former Program Officer” Presented by: Farukh M. Khambaty, PhD Research Assistant Professor ECU, Dept. of Pathology Greenville, NC Faculty Host: Everett Pesci, PhD (744-2351) TUESDAY, January 9, 2018 12:00 NOON - 1:00 PM BRODY BUILDING 2E-100 Dr. Khambaty earned his PhD in bacterial genetics and molecular biology from the Univ. of South Carolina, and completed a post-doc at the Food and Drug Administration. This was followed by a 14 year career at the FDA that involved research and regulatory reviews, and eventually led him to serve as a Branch Chief.   Next,  Dr. Khambaty served for six years as a Program Officer at the NIH, in the Respiratory Diseases Branch of the NIAID.  At the NIH, he managed a diverse portfolio of grants, three contracts and six clinical trials.   After leaving the NIH, he served as a consultant to two start-up vaccine companies, before joining the Dept. of Pathology at Brody School of Medicine in October 2017.  Farukh’s current interests include identifying areas of inter-departmental collaborations in the clinical research arena.
