The Skeletal System

The adult human body has 206 bones! Function The adult human body has 206 bones! The main purpose of the Skeletal system is to: support and protect the body allow the body to move

There are 26 bones in the human foot! Major Parts Connective tissue Bones Cartilage When you were born, you didn’t have “true” bone. Your bones were soft and rubbery, like the end of your nose or the top of you ear – cartilage There are 26 bones in the human foot!

Bones The inside of bone (bone marrow) maintain homeostasis by storing minerals and making blood cells

The inside of bone has two kinds of bone tissue: compact and spongy Rigid and dense Tiny canals contain small blood vessels Tiny open spaces Provides most of the strength and support of a bone When you were born, you didn’t have “true” bone. Your bones were soft and rubbery, like the end of your nose or the top of you ear – cartilage

The human hand, including the wrist, contains 54 bones! Joints Joint: where two or more bones meet Joints are held together by ligaments (strong bands of connective tissue) The human hand, including the wrist, contains 54 bones!

Skeletal System Problems Bone fractures. Fissures, breaks, etc. Ligament injuries

Skeletal System Problems Arthritis Osteoporosis Arthritis – inflamed joints causing pain and stiffness Osteoporosis – disease causing bones to be brittle
