Online Filtering, Monitoring and Alerting

Online Filtering, Monitoring and Alerting Specifically designed for education

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system The same four standard filters: WF1 / WF2 / WF3 / WF4 Custom filtering for both websites and searches Different filtering policies for different needs E.g. an after school policy Even possible to have different filtering policies down to individual level (requires some set up)

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system All accessed via a secure online portal.

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system All accessed via an online portal.

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system Monitoring and Reporting Standard monitoring/reporting already active Searchable reports available down to individual user level, if set up Search within specific time frames Useful for investigating incidents etc.

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system

Three types of alert will be available Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system Alerting Three types of alert will be available Access (or attempts) to child sexual abuse content (‘IWF Alerts’) Extremist content (‘Prevent Alerts’) Custom alerts

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system Alerting: Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Illegal to access or seek out Uses hidden IWF lists Cannot be overridden or changed in school The alert currently goes straight to RM. They will contact HfL – police involvement. You don’t have to enable this, it will be enforced.

The Prevent Duty “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”

The Prevent Duty Schools should ensure children are safe from terrorist and extremist material when accessing internet in schools. Schools should ensure suitable filtering is in place.

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system Alerting: Prevent (extremist content) Uses lists of unlawful terrorist content Lists maintained by the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit on behalf of Home Office Cannot be overridden locally Police not automatically involved Fewer false positives You don’t have to enable this, it will be enforced

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system Alerting: Custom (coming soon) Set up your own lists of sites and searches Can be set to trigger after single attempt or repeated (e.g. 5) attempts School can then log-in to investigate further E.g. a search for suicide might be research or something more concerning

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system For PREVENT and IWF alerts Currently there is no need to do anything Prevent alert: RM  HfL  School Aiming for alert to go directly to the school but we are waiting for approval from Counter Terrorism unit. IWF alert: RM / HFL will contact you (police involvement)

Your HICS filtering, monitoring and alerting system For alerts from custom filter lists Currently trialling this in a few schools. Roll out to schools that want this. Sign-up process which we will let you know about. Schools will be signed up in bands.

What do you need to do? Look out for communication regarding direct Prevent alerts. Look out for communication regarding custom alerts. Action this if desired. Choose a designated email address for future alerts to be sent to. Read information on how to use the system. Make sure your safeguarding processes are in place to deal with an alert. We will enrol schools in bands.
