“The Odyssey” Book 1

Odysseus Write what you have learned so far about Odysseus. Do you believe Odysseus is a tragic hero or an epic hero? Who is to blame for the death of the men in the cave of the Cyclopes? Was it cunning or luck that saved Odysseus and his men?

The Setting Which islands does Odysseus travel to in book one? Who does he meet along the way? Is Ignorance truly bliss? How can the Cyclopes be so uncivilized and a shepherd too? What do the Lotus Eaters and fish have in common?

An Epic or Tragic Hero? Epic Tragic Odysseus pokes out the eye of Polypthemus. Odysseus antagonizes Polypthemus, who in turn curses Odysseus and his men.
