Obesity

Define Obesity and Body Mass Index (BMI)(4-5) Explain how obesity may affect performance in physical activity and sport (6-7) Apply knowledge of how all three components of health and well-being can be affected negatively by obesity (8-9)

I want to hear you verbally discussing how obesity can affect health and performance in sport. I want to see you structuring exam style answers, securing all marks on offer. I want to see and hear you analysing the effects of obesity linking to future health problems in the three areas of health.

What is Obesity?

What is Obesity? A term used to describe people with a large fat content – caused by an imbalance of calories consumed to energy expenditure. BMI of over 30 or 20 per cent or move above ideal weight for height BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) A measure of whether someone is obese or not. Less than 20 = Underweight 20 – 25 = Correct Weight 25-30 = Overweight More than 30 = Obese
