Goals To understand the ideas of Who, What, When, Where, Why and How To be able to identify the different parts of a story. Common Core Standards Addressed RL2.1 https://ctcorestandards.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/CCS-ELA_K- 5_Standards_Progression.pdf

What do these parts mean? Breaking Down a Story Stories can be broken down into many different parts. Some of these parts are seen as the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of a story. What do these parts mean?

Who! Who was involved in the story? Who are the characters*? In Curious George, George (shown to the right) is one of the main characters, what is a main character? *A character is an active entity (person, animal, object) within a story that helps drive the plot, a character can be anything from Ash Ketchum, to Spongebob to Lumière.

What What happened in the story? What is the plot*? *The plot is the main events within a story, made by the author

When When does the story take place? Does it take place during the day? At night? Did this story take place a year ago, or a hundred years ago? Shown, 1930s New York City

Activity #1 Read the book The Three Little Pigs and work with your classmates to answer these questions Who’s in this story? What’s happening in this story? When does this story take place?

Where Where is the location of the story, or where it takes place!
