Interpreting Motion Graphs {Forces and Motion. Distance vs Time Graphs The motion of an object is defined by its change of position over a period of time.
Motion is Relative We always judge motion by comparing a moving object to something else. The “something else” is called a frame of reference.
Diagrams and Motion Graphs.  The slope is equal to the acceleration.  Because we only consider constant acceleration, v/t graphs will always be straight.
Chapter 11 Motion. Wrap Up F.O.R.  An object or point from which motion is determined?  The most common frame of reference?  Under what conditions.
Graphing Motion, Speed and Velocity. Graphs of Motion A Distance vs. time graph that is a straight line always means the object moves the same.
Warm Up. Constant Velocity  CONSTANT VELOCITY = NO CHANGE IN VELOCITY  Definition of acceleration = CHANGE IN VELOCITY over a period of time  CONSTANT.

Motion Graphs Let’s go over the basics.. Acceleration vs. time graphs (a vs. t) These graphs are boring, and will only have a straight line above the.
Interpreting Motion Graphically A few basics to remember…  The slope of a position-time graph provides velocity information…  Steeper = faster motion.

Cornell Notes 4-5 Speed vs Time Graphs February 14, 2017 – Page 125

Remember our Graph for the Three Little Pigs

Now Let’s Do a Speed vs Time Graph This time, Time is still on the x-axis, but VELOCITY is going to be on the Y-Axis

No Motion – Talking to Pigs Flat Line Speed=0 mi/min

Constant Motion – Walking in the Woods Flat Line Speed=0.2 mi/min

Combined Motion – 1st 7 Minutes Flat Lines 2nd Speed is faster 0.33 mi/min 0.2 mi/min

Backwards Constant Motion – Running Home Flat Line Speed=0.2 mi/min

Changing Motion – I’m Hungry! Straight Line Speed increases

Whole Story
