A level English Language Monday 9th March

Breakdown X 4 exams X2 AS x 4hrs X2 A2 x 4hrs You do AS at the end of year 1 and A2 at the end of year 2.

AS Passages – reading and analysing passages of text for style and language. (see example) Writing – imagintive writing and writing for an audience.

A2 Paper 3: Text analysis Paper 4: spoken language and group identity, English as a global language; Language acquisition.

Over the two years you will Read many texts on many subjects – so far AS has read about: titanic, travel, cooking shows, murder victims and their families. They have written over 600 words a week on subjects as diverse as apartments in Cordoba, secret underground worlds, festivals, food e.t.c

In year 2 A2 you will study The death of language, Native American languages, swear words, why women seem to talk more than men but actually do not, why children say papa before mama; innit, yougetme, bruv, why Spanish can not be the dominant language, why the unprecedented victories of Genghis Khan did not stifle the Chinese language.

Overall You need to have passed or hope to pass First Language. You need to enjoy studying and especially independent study which makes up over 30% of you time. Reading and discovering new words, ideas and explaining those ideas to others. Good work ethic. This is not easy.
