Support Services And Local Referral Routes Becky Herron

Tier 4 Tier 3 Tier 2 Tier 1

General advice and treatment for less severe problems by non mental health specialists working in general services, such as GP’s, school nurses, social workers and voluntary agencies The Primary Health Care team, counselling and support services. Low support and mainstream accommodation services. Statutory sector support services, mainstream leisure, education and recreational services Tier 1

Usually mental health services working in the community and primary care such as primary mental health workers and counsellors in clinics, schools and youth services Community mental health, assertive outreach, early intervention functions, acute inpatient care, supported accommodation services and general services Tier 2

Usually a multi-disciplinary team or service working in a community mental health clinic providing specialist services for more severe disorders, with team members including psychiatrists, social workers, board certified behaviour analysts, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and other therapists (CAMHS) Specialist inpatient services e.g. low and medium secure care and specialist community teams Tier 3

Highly specialist services for children with serious problems such as day units, specialist outpatients teams and in patient units Highly specialist inpatient , high secure and residential services Tier 4

Last year Sue’s son committed suicide. Since that time her 14-year old daughter Amy has been self harming (cutting). She has also attempted to take her own life by taking an overdose of pills and threatens to do it again. Sue is still grieving for her son and is struggling to cope with both his death, and her daughter’s behaviour. What support and/or services could help Sue? What support and/or services could help Amy?
