Digitally produced products BY dean O'Neill

Digital publishing, what is it? Digital products are anything that could be made by print and putting them into a format that can be used on a wide range of technology like, mobile devices, computers, tablets and smart t.v’s. Some examples of digital products are: E magazines, adverts, leaflets, e books and even instruction manuals, that you can find all over the internet. You can also interact with these products differently while you might click and watch one for another you might need to download a file of a website to watch or read.

Product 1: Movie Cover Movie covers are used to give the narrative of the film to the cover or a basic idea of what the movie is about, here using the cover of corpse bride we can see that this film is about the husband that somehow ended up marrying a corpse though magic or some force and that’s just from the cover of the film. The way that the movie cover is published you would most likely see in a store or now even on your phone as lots of movies are now coming on to app stores which makes it digitally published along side with it being published by printing. The target audience for the movie I would argue for older children to teenagers with females and males to as the film is a romance movie with action of course with added song break a ways for the lower end of the older children. Most film covers are mostly used to entertain as well as the movie itself as well as to persuade you to see or buy as the cover should be able to make you want the film with telling you basically what's it about.

Product 2: E-book This is a cover of the audio book IT, similar to the movie cover it’s supposed to give you an idea of what your about to watch or listen too. This is one of the covers for the book/e-book as this one of the covers that you will see on audible site that gives you the first impression of the product. With this version of the cover you will see this on online mainly with sites like audible or even app stores where you can buy them. The way that you would use this product would be buying then plugging in your headphones, earphones or even listening to the e-book with speakers that’s how you would consume this product. This product can be viewed on many different devices like mobile phones, tablets, desktops. The target audience for Stephen king I would assume for adults on wards as he covers horror and thrillers as I wouldn’t think young kids wouldn’t be interested in Stephen King as most of his work is to scary and terrifying such as nightmares that would be too intense for little kids. It’s mainly to entertain not to promote or educate people.

Product 3: E-magazines E-magazines like Vogue publish both ways digitally and printed so they cover a wider audience for the people who don’t like going into stores or paying by subscription and waiting for the magazine to arrive they can easily jump on their phone, tablet and bring up the magazine with a click of a button and get to read it instantly. Again they can be viewed online, or be downloaded, using any smart device usually, they are even printed and can also be bought on app stores now so you can pretty access anywhere anytime which makes it really convenient instead of waiting for it to arrive and then you need to think where to store the magazine after you have reed it if you use the internet to read it then you can just store the whole magazine electronically then simply delete it after use. The target audience for this particular E-magazine females easily dominate as females are the target audience with also teenagers moving on to middle aged women. The purpose of this magazine is to entertain as they will have some topics within the magazine talking about celebs or fashion which then moves on to promoting products that are featured in the magazine as there will be cosmetics, perfumes, clothes and shoes all are being promoted in the magazine. From promoting it moves on to persuading which has to be done other wise why would someone buy it as they aren’t really talking about the product that they are selling.

Advantages & Disadvantages Advantages The advantages to publish digitally is the accessibility of the product, where you can open, view or use the product which means that if you have a smart device you can open different products like e-books as you can listen to them anywhere like on the bus or even at home. Another advantage of digital publishing is the distribution and the fact that is so easy to get your product out there online has all it takes is one click of button and everyone can see what you have made, from there your product can reach social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram then can be shared between their friends and then gets spread across their friends and so on. The big advantage that publishing digitally rather then the traditional way is that it is cheaper not by much as printing as the design process roughly costs the same but the big money saver comes thought the distribution has if you’re printing then you need to hire man and vans to hand out or even get it into stores then that’s more money that’s out of your pocket. Disadvantages As the accessibility is advantage that you can use anywhere the disadvantage is the fact that you need a constant internet connection to use the product, so if you’re an older person who hasn’t really used the internet then using the products online can be complicated then using the printed version. More on the fact that not only do you need to have some connection to the internet but you also need to make sure that you have enough power on the device that you’re using mobile phone or tablet unless you’re using a computer. The product doesn’t always look better as it completely depends on the device that you are using if you have an older say phone then it’s going to look worse has the resolution wont be as good as a newer phone and your not seeing the product at it’s best now if you saw the product in it’s printed form then it’s consistent has it will always be at it’s best but overtime the magazine will get ware and tear getting rips and so on.

Conclusion Overall digital publishing has more advantages then disadvantages but the disadvantages are apparent and are important as the whole risk of running out of power is huge problem and it’s nothing that they can really do to change that, this problem lays with the company that makes the device. Also there is the point I mentioned before is the constant internet connection you need again but that’s also out of their control. In conclusion digitally produced products have more benefits that don’t just include it benefiting the company with the easy distribution but the audience as they can make the magazine more interactive with forums and the liking and sharing feature.
