When you write a narrative text, you are telling a story.

Narratives include….. Character – who the story is about Setting - when and where the story takes place Conflict – the internal or external struggle/problem the main character has (internal is with self and external is with an outside force) Resolution – how the conflict is finally handled (it may or may not be totally solved or resolved) Plot - the events in the story- (which includes) Exposition – INTRODUCTION-GRAB THE READERS ATTENTION – characters are introduced Rising Action – THE BODY ( MIDDLE IS THE GOOD PART) – the events build to cause interest or suspense; the conflict is revealed Climax - THE BODY ( MIDDLE IS THE GOOD PART - the turning point of a story falling action – CONCLUSION – THE END - after the climax, events that will help to fully resolve the conflict; http://www.learner.org/interactives/story/conflict.html Narratives include….. http://www.learner.org/interactives/story/conflict.html

PLOT Mashed Potato Pizza (protagonist) - MARIA I. Introduction (Beginning) Grabs the reader's attention. Make sure the PROTAGONIST, SETTING and CONFLICT are revealed here. II. Body (Middle) Lots of action described in detail – the PLOT unfolds here. SETTING may change. III. Conclusion (END) PLOT comes to an end. RESOLUTION is revealed here. SAY SOMETHING THE READER WILL REMEMBER. (Bang! Bang!) (protagonist) - MARIA (Setting)CAFETERIA/LUNCHTIME Maria goes lunch, wants pizza but only slice left. CONFLICT: MARIA WANTS PIZZA AND THERE IS ONLY ONE SLICE LEFT IN THE LUNCHLINE PLOT Maria grabs Pizza and Knocks it in the mashed potatoes. The lunch lady Doesn’t fuss but smiles. Then Maria and her friends start laughing. RESOLUTION – Maria gets the last slice and does not ger tin trouble. THEME – Think before you act; Smiles are sometimes better than frowns

CONFLICT: Narrator Wants last slice of pizza PLOT The narrator gets the pizza But it falls in the mashed Potatoes and the cafeteria lady makes a joke. The narrator and other Characters laugh together. RESOLUTION - Narrator gets the last slice of pizza and does not get in trouble. Theme – Sometimes it is better to smile than frown
