Research Techniques Rhys Boughton

Primary My primary research will be the research I have found out myself whilst working on the corporate and promotional video for English Heritage. I will plan out and write interview questions in order to find out new information that cannot be found online. In order to receive primary information I could carry out a survey to be able to get an understanding of how many people enjoyed their trip with English heritage and what they thought about the experience. It will also be important to try and receive information from employees from Upnor castle that are giving unique answers so I a get information that cannot be found online or could be made clearer. The survey could be a questionnaire where the person giving their answers has to tick boxes or write up their answer in a few short summaries so I can compare opinions. Likert Scale is a scale that has been created to show the beliefs and attitudes of certain topics. Each scale has a specific audience and then is collected together to form data with questions being answered on a scale of one to ten and so on. Likert Scale is both primary and secondary as the research can be discovered online through other factual scales or found out through personal research.

Secondary Secondary research will be the research I have found on the English Heritage website, twitter and general news about events. I will be looking at reviews online so I am able to receive some secondary research that has been written up by people who have used the English heritage service and have visited Upnor castle (this could also help me understand the target audience). Secondary research is easy to find out as I have many resources to choose from online; I can use the English Heritage website, their twitter or Facebook page, I can look at reviews from the public that have stayed their for the day and I can ask people I know what they thought when they have been. I have written up some information that I believe can be found online. Quantitative: This type of research is formal, objective and involves backed up research built around data as quantitative research usually has more to offer and is based around the amount of research done rather than the quality of the research. This research involves statistics and is built up of strong facts and opinions to inform. Qualitative: This is exploratory research and is used to gain understandings, reasons and opinions. The research is also written and worded in a way for the interviewee to give a detailed answer with depth and meaning to allow the interviewer to show they are interested in human behavior within each question and reply.

Production Production research is the research I will focus on to better my understanding of the budget and resources that will help me during my production. This will also simplify the production so I know what to use and when to use it. It will take 14 minutes to get to Rochester from Chatham by car and then setting up shouldn't take too long. The software I will use will help my corporate and promotional video look more professional and should add a style to the video that will appeal to the main target audience and new employees. Adobe Audition: To help improve sound design. Adobe Flash: To animate title sequences in order to make the video look appealing. Adobe Premiere: To edit the video together and complete the final product. I have chosen to use this software as I feel it will benefit my corporate and promotional video and make it look visually interesting and professional. I want my corporate and promotional video to be as good as the actual corporate videos made by professionals and this software as well as the equipment should really help me achieve this. The equipment I will use will obviously help with filming and sound as well as editing the video. Tripods, microphones and mic poles will help with receiving great sounds and interesting shots when shooting the corporate and promotional video around Upnor castle. Camera: Canon HF 30 I will film my promotional video and export the final edited product in 1080p (1080 progressive) which is currently the second best high definition quality, the first being 4K. Audio: Zoom Audio Recorder Computer: Mac Microphone: Shotgun Microphone Tripod: Video Tripod Level 3 Year 1 The budget for the equipment will come at £2,925

Audience The demographic for English heritage will mainly be families and people who enjoy travelling or tourist attractions. In order to understand the audience, interview questions should be created in order to understand how the demographic feels and what they would like to see that is new or improved. In order to understand the audience I should look at reviews online to see what the target audience has said about English heritage and whether or not they would recommend the service to another person.

Market Research Market research, which includes social and opinion research, is the systematic gathering and interpretation of information about individuals or organizations using the statistical and analytical methods and techniques of the applied sciences to gain insight or support decision making. For my market research I will look at the structure of corporate and promotional videos on YouTube in order to get an understanding on how to edit my video and lay it all out neatly in video form. By doing this I will also have an understanding on how and when to introduce interviews and how long they should be in order to receive as many answers as possible during the corporate and promotional video.
