Presentation transcript:

Finchley Catholic High School Dear Lord, guide our school with a vision that is built on love; where everybody matters. A school where the benefits of life are shared and everyone can enjoy themselves; a school where tolerance and mutual respect exist a school where peace and justice go together, and justice is guided by love. Give us inspiration and courage to build a community of love. Amen.

Homework Policy   Homework and its assessment is integral to all pupils’ development and therefore it is necessary to have a consistent and informative system for the benefit of staff, pupils and parents. Aims: 1. To encourage pupils to develop the skills, confidence and motivation to study effectively on their own. 2. To consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding which have been developed in class. 3. To develop pupils’ organisational skills.

It is an opportunity to check mastery of skills taught- for the pupil themselves and for the teacher to monitor. Your child learns to organise and manage his own time. Your son takes ownership of his own learning – becoming an independent learner.

What can I do? Show you are interested Make sure you are familiar with Show my Homework Develop a routine Have a designated homework area Minimise distractions- turn off the TV, take away mobiles

BEWARE! To-do list Your son may show you his to-do list He is able to edit this, as it is his own personal reminder. Always refer to the calendar, which shows what is SET and when it is due.

Don’t do the homework for them! Encourage them to be as independent as possible- use their text books, exercise books, handouts and resources on SMH. Help identify Key Words Use suitable websites If necessary provide sentence starters to help organise paragraphs I think this source material is useful because... This source does not tell me about........

instructions- words or pictures A method of making only one print Method used in class Ways they are the same and ways they are different Not compulsory, how long have they already spent on their homework?

Stopping the black death Stopping the black death for kids What should you search?

Task Using the hand out provided, you are to list everything you have eaten and have had to drink in the past week. Do your best – it is ok if you don’t remember some meals. Once you have completed the hand out you are to analyse your diet by answering the following questions: Is it balanced? Do you eat enough of each food group each day? What do you eat too little of? What do you eat too much of? Explain how could you improve your diet?

Finchley Catholic High School

Finchley Catholic High School As a school, we have allocated each Year 7 student a Performance Expectation of: EXCEEDING MEETING DEVELOPING FOUNDATION This is based on their performance in their KS2 SATs and CATs which they sat at the end of Year 6

Finchley Catholic High School Subject areas have..... Determined the skills, competencies and knowledge base that students need to develop in their subject by the end of Year 7. Over the course of this year, assessments that Year 7 students will undertake will link to these criteria.

Finchley Catholic High School Subject areas have..... Students will be graded according to whether they are EXCEEDING, MEETING, DEVELOPING TOWARDS or at FOUNDATION LEVEL in terms of expectations The interim report you receive in the Spring will be based on where students are predicted to be by the end of the academic year The summer report you receive in July will show actual performance and progress
