Explorer Belt The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It is a chance to take part in a 10-day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. You will develop this understanding by travelling through your chosen country, working as part of a small team to complete a series of projects and, most importantly, by meeting local people. It is an experience and an achievement that you will remember for the rest of your life. There are two types of projects within the Explorer Belt: major projects which are selected by the team, and minor projects which are set by the assessing panel and by your peers (e.g. other Explorer Scouts or Scout Network members). The aim of both the major and minor projects is to bring you into close contact with people that you meet in the communities you are travelling through.

LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE OUTLINE ITINERARY Sat. July 20th Depart Doncaster - flight to Dublin then onto Vancouver. Flights not originating in the UK are significantly cheaper Sun. July 21st -Tue. July 23rd – Arrive in Vancouver Sightseeing (Hostel Type Accommodation). Wed. July 24th - Flight to Smithers, overnight camping Thu. July 25th – Tue. July 30th Babine Rafting expedition & camping, Wed. July 31st – Thu. 1st August Activities with Scouts Canada. Fri. August 2nd – Flight back from Smithers followed by return flight LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Vancouver Vancouver is a dynamic, multicultural city set in a spectacular natural environment. It is one of North America’s most under-rated tourist destinations. It is a modern, travel-friendly city with a unique mix of cultures - it provides a spectacular and safe setting for us to start our Expedition.

Major Project – 1st Nation Peoples Today, there are approximately 200,000 Aboriginal people in British Columbia. There are 198 distinct First Nations in B.C., each with their own unique traditions and history. More than 30 different First Nation languages and close to 60 dialects are spoken in the province.

Rafting LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE White Water Rafting on grade 1-4 rapids on the Babine & Skeena Rivers • 6 nights camping alongside the Babine River with options for hiking excursions • Participants must be a minimum of 13 years old and a minimum of 90 lbs, no prior experience required but must be a confident swimmer. WHAT’S INCLUDED • Rafting & camping gear; wetsuit, wetsuit jacket, booties, lifejacket and helmet, • Instruction & leadership from expert guides • All meals provided whilst on river; breakfast, lunches & dinners as well as snacks and soft drinks LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Babine River - known as “the river of the grizzlies” and is considered one of the last unspoiled river rafting trips in British Columbia (BC). This is expedition rafting at its best. During our 6 day trip you’ll raft through thick BC forests and narrow, intimate canyons, keeping an eye out for the magnificent grizzly bear on the banks of the river. You’ll experience thrills and splashes as your guide navigates over big waves and through dramatically tight constrictions LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE Cost - Not more than £3000 (Jamboree £3845) Flights - £850 Rafting Expedition £1500 Register your interest with a refundable £30 deposit (due at the end of January) Places must be reconfirmed at the beginning of June as flights will be booked in July.
