October 31 Objectives Students will… Take notes and understand how to use the ceramic tools Practice using the ceramic tools with air dry clay Take the ceramics pre-test

Pinch pot Pinch Pot- This is made by rolling your clay into a ball and then putting you thumb in the center of the Clay You then pinch it in the circular motion between your pointer finger and thumb

Firing in the kiln makes clay more durable. The machine which is used to heat the clay so it becomes hard and more durable. Firing in the kiln makes clay more durable.

Earthenware Fires at the lowest temperature 1,900 to 2,100. This is the class that comes straight from the earth

Red Art The main ingredient in Georgia Red Clay it makes the clay Red.

Coil Pot Using coils of clay “Snake” the bowl is made from over lapping the coil

Slab Vessel Form made up of slabs of clay “Flat pieces of clay”

Rib Tools- used for smoothing

Wire tool- Used for cutting large pieces of clay

Loop Tool- for carving areas of clay

Glaze Gloss Glaze- Is very shiny glaze Semi Gloss Glaze- Is a little shiny Matte Glaze- Glaze with not shine to it Opaque Glaze- Glaze you can not see the clay under it Transparent Glaze- You can see a little of the clay Translucent Glaze- You can see all of the clay through the clay
