Invention of the Telephone Alexander Graham Bell is commonly credited as the inventor of the first practical telephone in 1876. Probably no other means of communication revolutionized the daily lives of ordinary people other that the telephone has, not only has it made it possible to convey a vocalised message, but in relevance to the internet, it made network connection possible initially through the use of telephone lines.

The First Email In 1971 Ray Tomlinson sent the first email. This was simply a message to himself from one computer to another sitting directly beside it. The email was sent via ARPNET, this was a network of computers that was the precursor to the internet we know today. Tomlinson was not the inventor of email itself this was discovered in 1965.

It has become especially integral to businesses as it helps with the expansion by creating a greater outreach and also showing how proactive an organisation can be. On a personal level the email helps to create long lasting relationships due to frequent communication. Finally email allows the user to ‘attach’ documents and files to share ideas and experiences with the recipient.

Facebook was launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. The website was initially restricted to the students at Harvard University yet quickly expanded to all U.S schools and then rapidly to anyone worldwide over the age of 13. Facebook is currently the worlds largest active social network with over 350 million users.

Facebook is a quick and easy way for people to communicate and share their interests and experiences. Users can upload photographs, play games and chat via instant messaging.
