Odyssey Scavenger Hunt

Directions Get into groups no larger than three. Each group must have a smart phone or be at a computer. Each group needs a whiteboard, marker, and eraser or tissue. Bring your notebook to take notes as you go.

Define epic poem. Who wrote the Odyssey? What was Homer’s handicap? What other epic poem did Homer write? What war was the Illiad about? During what years were the Illiad and the Odyssey probably written?

Who was kidnapped at the beginning of the Trojan War? What were the rhapsodes? Who was the greatest warrior of the Greeks during the Trojan War? Who was the leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War? (Two possible answers) Who developed the plan to win the Trojan War?

What object helped the Greeks to win the Trojan War? Who is the main character in the Odyssey? How long does it take Odysseus to get home? What is Odysseus’ home? Who is Odysseus’ wife? Who is Odysseus’ son?

Which goddess helps Odysseus the most? Who is Polyphemus? What is a Cyclops? Who is Polyphemus’ father? What drug do Odysseus’ men take? How do the sirens kill sailors?

Which king helps Odysseus get home? Who is Odysseus’ most loyal servant and swine (pig) herder? Who is trying to marry Penelope? (Name the main one.) Who is the Sun god?
