Access Control - MAD For the LS1, MAD remote monitoring functionality was requested In case of problems with the MAD, the operator can take control of the device, monitoring its interior Today used by the CSA guards in case of need Functionality requested by the PS operators as well Will be kept in the LHC for post LS1 operation, unless a formal request to suppress this feature is made 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Access Control Video Monitoring New video client - Milestone introduced in the CCC 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Minor Sectorisation Changes 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Point 1: Displacement of Tunnel access points from UJ14/16 to UL14/16 (R2E). Zones called UL14 & UL16 Point 5: Addition of a new end-of-zone door YCPZ01=USC55 between the USC55 cavern and the bypass to help transport voluminous material. Emergency exit always possible through the PAD, CMS wished to be able to lock the door -> procedure (!) Patrol procedures need to be updated to include the sectorisation changes! TI2: Displacement of the inter- machine (LHC-SPS) door by 400 m. towards the LHC.

UX451 Sectorisation Change 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Move the PAD from its location at the frontier between the tunnel and UX451 to the frontier between the UX451 and US450 and fence-off a narrow passage in the UX451 (R2E). Before LS1: After LS1: Access Point remains called UX451

Interlocking PM32 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Before LS1 After LS1 PM32 safe w.r.t. circulating beams, but: TZ32 shall be made accessible from PM32 for CLIC alignment studies Risk of exposure to activated air behind the ventilation door at the bottom of the shaft Access forbidden while superconductive magnets powered – need to homogenize the protection barriers

PM32 – Service Zone of Point 2 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Access Point Maintenance Doors Availability problem: With more than a 1’000 passages per day during short Technical Stops, the access devices require lots of maintenance interventions Impossible to perform maintenance in Beam mode, as any intervention would dump the beam Almost impossible to perform maintenance in Access mode, as it disturbs access for other teams Solution: Install additional doors behind the access points (just in front of the elevators), not obstructing passage during normal access While in Beam mode: 1. Close the maintenance door remotely 2. Transfer the LASS surveillance envelope to the new door 3. Perform maintenance of the access point 4. Transfer the LASS surveillance envelope back to the access point 5. Open the maintenance door remotely Only top of the pit to start with: PM15, PM25, PX24, PZ33, PM45, PZ45, PM56, PM65, PM76, PM85 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Access Point Maintenance Doors 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Procedure guiding the use of this door needed. In case of urgent access, while the PAD is under maintenance, it shall always be possible to open the maintenance door, but this will disarm the patrol. Having the access point back in operation needed to perform the patrol.

New Radiation Veto Sectors Installation of Radiation Veto set/reset key and RP Veto signalization panels next to the sector doors leading to: TI2 transfer line TI8 transfer line TD62 beam dump transfer gallery TD68 beam dump transfer gallery These Radiation Vetoes will apply automatically 30 minutes after passing to Beam mode. Reminder: manual setting of Radiation Veto propagates top-down (e.g. PM25 -> UJ23 -> TI2), resetting does not propagate. 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Monitoring of Helium Confinement Doors Helium confinement doors were introduced following September 2008, monitored in LACS/TIM and used in the SIS powering interlock They are of different types: Overpressure resistant doors One way pressure release doors Two way pressure release doors (saloon) 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: During LS1, the door monitoring was moved to LASS The doors in the ULs composed of multiple parts - some at the service tunnel level, some at the service gallery (higher) level - were split into two (by level) YCPV02=UL26 YCPV01=UL26

Interlocking of Injection Tunnel TI2 Upstream Area with the LHC Powering 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Allow powering phase II in LHC sector 1-2 only if: 1. The overpressure resistant door PPG_TI2 closed 2. SPS Sector 5 special patrol OK Two patrol boxes; next to PPG2145 and PPG_TI2 Patrol lost after each access Rearming possible with LHC Patrol key at any time: first the inter-machine patrol box, then the box next to the PPG_TI2 door Patrol/Access procedure to the transfer line from SPS needed

Interlocking of Injection Tunnel TI8 Upstream Area with the LHC Powering 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: Allow powering phase II in LHC sector 1-8 only if: 1. The overpressure resistant doors Door PPV_TA40 Closed Door PPV_TT41 Closed 2. ECX4 Safe and Closed (orange) 3. TAG42 Safe and Closed (green) Need for communication between the LHC and SPS operators.

Access – Powering Interlock The interlock matrix very similar to the one used so far (major change is the transfer lines) Safety Improvements Overpressure doors monitored in LASS LASS communicates directly to a PIC PLC HMI Improvements 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Monitoring of Doors Important for Control of Activated Air Three RP relevant doors included in LASS: YCPV01=US76 YCPV01=US32 UCPV01=UP53 Ventilation doors between Service and Tunnel areas in the even points only monitored in LASS – dedicated view Need for operating procedure and/or inclusion in Big Sister or SIS Injection Interlock 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms:

Point 7 Collimation Region Enclosure 8 April 2014T.Ladzinski GS/ASE - edms: No Access / Beam ON Doors closed to have high speed flow of air through ducts passing the sections with the highest losses and, thus, reduce radioactive releases. Bypass ventilators on. Before Access Doors opened to remove radioactive air. Bypass ventilators off. Doors shall open in case of an overpressure due to a major He-release. No interlock with the access safety system, only monitoring and remote control. No automatic link with the fire detection & ventilation systems. Need for a detailed operating procedure (including malfunctioning scenarios)!
