Understanding Destiny Wilson STELLAR

Welcome! Did you know that you can find books in our library using the computer? DESTINY is our online card catalog system! You can use DESTINY in school OR at home! If you are looking from home, make sure that you are at Wilson’s Destiny page, since you can look for books anywhere in our district.

Review: Why Do We Use Call Numbers? Each book in the library has a one-of-a-kind call number. A call number is like your home address. It tells us where the book is located in the library.

Reading Call Numbers A call number is located at the bottom of the book on the spine. It helps you to find your books quickly. Once you've got your call number from DESTINY, it's time to go find your book!

Remember … Just because it's a call number doesn't mean it has numbers!  Some call numbers are made up only of letters!

Finding Fiction Where do we find Fiction Books in our Library? There are many ways to write a fiction call number. This is how we recognize a fiction book in our libraries: F = Fiction  McD = first 3 initials of the author's last name

Using Dewey The call number that we use for nonfiction books is the Dewey Decimal Number.

How Do I Find a Book Using Destiny? Step 1: Head over to the computer and click on Internet Explorer. This screen will pop up:

Step 2: Change the tab from HOME to CATALOG!

Searching in Destiny By Keyword (example: Dogs, Retrievers) By Title (example: Clifford, the Big Red Dog) By Author (example: Brett) By Subject (example: Dogs) By Series (example: Magic Schoolbus)

Did You Know? It’s your search word that counts! Books on the subject of Dogs can be found in many spots. In Non-Fiction, you will find books on dogs in 636. You can also find books on dogs in loads of Fiction areas. It’s your search word that counts!

Did You Know? Fiction books are found in three sections: Picture Books Easy Reading Fiction FICTION BOOKS ARE ORGANIZED IN ABC ORDER BY THE AUTHOR’S LAST NAME!

So … How would I find a book by Jan Brett using Destiny?
