What is a CCG & our remit Formed in 2013, we are currently responsible for commissioning these types of health services, from 1 April 2015 we took on full delegated authority to co commission primary care services delivered in GP Practices A ‘commissioning’ organisation – responsible for identifying and buying health services Not a provider of healthcare such as hospitals, GP Practices etc. Formally established in April 2013 by the Coalition Government Led by local GPs who know the local area and what the local health needs are

Key facts Our Governing Body comprises 13 members, nine of who are current or former health professionals. We commission services for around 119,000 patients. In 2016/17 we spent £181.2million to pay for the health services required by our local population. Our Governing Body comprises 13 members,

Involving you in our work Putting patients at the heart of our decision making process is paramount In line with section 242 of the NHS Act 2012, we have a duty to consult patients on any significant changes to health services We want to go a step further than that to shape services around patient need and based on their feedback about services

Introduction to the Commissioning Maze A tool to generate discussion about specific commissioning decisions and challenges faced Your chance to gain a greater understanding of the commissioning process Imagine you are a health boss in the CCG How best to spend the health budget Gather feedback Help inform CCG Governing Body about future priorities for the commissioning of services This activity is used as a tool to generate discussion about specific commissioning decisions relevant to the SRCCG and the challenges faced with limited resources. This is your chance to gain a greater understanding of the commissioning process and understand why difficult decisions have to be made as a result of having a limited budget. It is our plan to use the commissioning maze as a means of engaging with the local community, gathering patient and public feedback, which will help inform CCG Governing body decisions about future priorities for the commissioning of services. This is your opportunity to act as a health boss, you are in charge of spending the budget, you decide on what services are delivered and where you would make cuts if this was required.

The Commissioning Maze “This has been the most interesting, informative and enjoyable of any previous SRCCG meeting, thank you” 2 Sept 2015 PRG “Have a greater understanding of how to balance the budget” 2 Sept 2015 SR PRG The Commissioning Maze has always been well received when we have used with previous groups and we felt this was a great opportunity to engage And gain feedback

Lets gets started …. The Rules…. Each group/team has a “Commissioning Expert” and a “Scribe” The “Commissioning Expert” will advise on decisions you make and consequences The “Scribe” will capture all decisions made Nominate one person to be responsible for the “Money Board” The rules are quite simple, but the challenges you face during it may not be !! Right lets get started Each group/team has a designed facilitator, known as a commissioning expert and a scribe – Can they please introduce themselves to the team and can the scribe please complete the team sheet. The rules are quite simple, but the challenges you face during it may not be Your budget is allocated, but you may chose to move the monies around

Lets gets started …. The Rules…. Your budget is allocated – but you may chose to move it around! 6 different scenarios – eg: Public Health, Innovation, Patient Experience, Prevention, Patient at the Centre Government Policy “Red Card” is mandatory all other scenarios are optional In the Black – these cards give you monies Patients at the Centre – group to discuss the cards and note Your budget is allocated, but you may chose to move the monies around There are 6 different scenarios, Public Health, Innovation, Patient Experience/Public Opinion, Prevention, Government Policy, In the Black and Patient at the Centre.) only one scenario is “mandatory and that is the red card “Government Policy”. All the other scenarios are optional and your team has the debate to whether you chose to invest In the Black cards give you monies and you decide how to make it work, do you save or re invest??

Lets gets started …. The Rules…. You begin the game by rolling the dice, what ever hexagon you land on, you pick up the top card from that scenario The conversation begins …………….. Throughout the process, the Chair will announce a curve ball to all ……this will have consequences and decisions will have to be made You have 70 minutes for the exercise , limit each scenario to no more than 5 minutes You begin the game by rolling the dice, what ever hexagon you land on, you should pick up the top card from the scenario pile – the conversation begins, do you invest or not. Throughout the process, the group will be given a curve ball – this will require the group to discuss as it will have consequences You will have 70 min for the exercise

Lets gets started …. The Rules…. At the end the facilitator/Commissioning Expert will give feedback highlighting 3 key points from each group The scribe will collate a breakdown to the final budget Good Luck and enjoy the experience…. Roll the dice ….. We will then ask the facilitator/commissioning expert to feedback highlighting 3 key points And the scribe to collate a breakdown of the final budget Good luck to all you can begin by rolling the dice

Lets have some fun… Roll your dice…

Feedback from each team

Closing Summary Please ensure the scribes hand all the feedback forms, and budget sheets back to a member of CCG staff

Thank you for attending Your feedback is important
