Purpose Statement/Overview BCHC is a forum for the leaders of 28 of America’s largest metro health departments in the country’s most urban areas. Members exchange strategies and jointly promote and protect the nation’s health and safety for a healthier America. BCHC leaders establish annual policy and advocacy priorities and exchange strategies to address issues to promote and protect the health and safety of the approximately 54 million people they serve – or one in six Americans.

Organizational Progress: Governance Adopted formal membership criteria: urban (top 30 Census) and Large (350K+) – now 28 cities Unanimously agreed to dues structure significantly higher than NACCHO – About ¾ of cities have paid to date Agreed on a governance structure, including Coalition leadership and processes

Organizational Progress: Participation Monthly Calls 2014 – average attendance was 65% of jurisdictions 2015 – increased to 73% of jurisdictions January 2015 Retreat 18 of 20 cities present (90%) NACCHO Annual 20 of 27 cities attended Member meeting (74%) More than 30 BCHC-related sessions

Organizational Progress: Building Capacity Transitioned staff leadership and secured additional staff Fully integrated BCHC into NACCHO, leveraging strengths – quarterly meetings, policy work w/SMEs, Ebola brown bag Secured additional funds from existing funders
