A Word on Work Centers Work centers assure adequate staffing levels. A department may have many work centers. You do not have to create work centers for a department. You set the number of people who can be on vacation from a work center – as well as the department.

Work Centers Continued... An employee competes for a vacation slot with other members of the work center. If a slot is available in the work center - then the employee competes for a department slot. This procedure maintains adequate staffing.

Work Centers – An Example The shipping department has three work centers: Loading Packing Receiving

Determine the Allowed Vacation Slots You allow 6 people in shipping to take vacation on any day. You allow 2 people from any work center to take vacation.

More on Work Centers Three packers request October 17th off. Because of your needs - only 2 will be allowed to take vacation on that day. This is true, even if the third person has more seniority, in the department, than any one else not scheduled so far. This is true, even if 4 empty slots are available in the department for that day.

Work Centers Maintain Staffing Using work centers prevents all 6 packers from going on vacation at one time. Adequate staffing is maintained at all times.

How to Add Work Centers Make sure that the Use Work Centers field on the Department form is set to “True.”

Adding Work Centers, Continued… Go to the Work Center form. Add the work centers.

Add Work Center Slots Go to the Work Center Slots Form. Click on the Fill Range button.

The Fill Range Form The dates default to those entered on the Company form. The Number of Slots field defaults to 1.

Populate the Database. The date fields can be set to cover any range. The slots field can be set to any number. In this example we set it to two. Click the OK button.

The Work Center Slots are Added Vacation Scheduler™ populates the table. A few clicks of the mouse have set up the vacation slots!

Repeat the Process Repeat the steps for all the work centers. You can add or change slots for a single date. You do not have to use the Fill Range form. Adding department slots is the same procedure.
