The Sons Of Liberty

Origin Secret organization to protest stamp act Main objective to force stamp distributors to resign

Leaders The leaders were John Lamb and Alexander McDougall from New York and Samuel Adams and James Otis from New England

Violent Protest An example of their violence was when they burned the effigy of Andrew Oliver, a local stamp distributor to try to get him to resign. They also burned his office building. Even after his resignation, they almost destroyed the house of his close associate, Lieutenant Governor Thomas Hutchinson.

Facts Groups like the sons existed in every colony. Most effective work was the newsprints which carried daily reports about the sons
