Pecos Bill A Tall Tale Hero

Tall Tales Tall tales were first told by settlers for entertainment Tall Tales Tall tales were first told by settlers for entertainment. The story tellers tried to out tell each other with more exaggerated tales.

Tall tales have a larger-than-life character Tall tales have a larger-than-life character. This superhuman character solves problems in a funny way.

Tall tale characters have a specific job that they perform in a larger-than-life fashion.

Tall tale characters were born in a particular geographic area.                     

Tall tales have humorous, exaggerated details that describe things as greater than they really are. They are told in everyday language. He was yanked overboard by a Texas trout and saved by an old coyote. He was raised by coyotes. He lassoed a bull with a rattle snake. He scares the bull out of his skin. When riding Window maker,lighten exploded from the canyon, leaping and bucking across the states. When riding Window Maker, Slew foot Sue’s dress bustle rocketed her toward the stars. Bill lassoed a tornado to help him catch his bride.
