One Body One Direction To the Glory of God
Becoming One with the Holy Spirit- Part 4
Praying in Tongues brings the Manifestation of God’s Will & Power NOW!
A story of 2 Kings One who engaged and one who went through life by letting the situation evolve without engaging it.
Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
What are we heirs of? God’s Glory! Look at another passage: Ephesians 2:6 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Where is our position? It is seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Where is Jesus sitting at? At the right hand side of God? Where are we seated at? At the right hand side of God in Christ Jesus.
In and through Christ we have been repositioned! We are no longer children of this world, but royalty, heirs in the Kingdom of Heaven. We have been charged with the advancement of our Lord’s mission
Aligning with the Highest Order Our position is on the throne of God in Christ Jesus. This is why that when we pray, we have every right and expectation to receive our prayers answered as long as they are aligning with God’s Word. (1 John 3:22-23, 5:14-15)
1 Peter 2:9 (NLT) 9 But you are not like that (those that stumbled because of the word), for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,* a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. .
Changing our Reality There is times in our life that we have to be reminded of our position, our heritance, our blood line, our salvation and who we are in submission to. God wants His best for each and everyone of us and we must “GO AFTER” His best for us.
Understand: Position always precedes power. We must be positioned in Christ before we can ever do anything for His kingdom:
The Power We Need: Acts 1:4–5 (NKJV) 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” .
Jesus did not suggest that the apostles wait for the promise nor did he recommend. He commanded! Why? Because the empowerment of the Spirit is essential to all Kingdom Work
The initial contact John 20:21–22 (NKJV) 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:4 the word filled means to be satiated. Which means to supply to excess. Those in the upper room was filled to excess with the Holy Spirit. Why Tongues?
4 Accounts of People being filled with the Holy Spirit after the day of Pentecost: Philip and the Samaritans in Acts 8:14-16 Saul of Tarsus, Acts 9 Peter and Cornelius Acts 10 The Ephesians in Acts 19
4 Types of Tongues that Brings a Release of God’s Power and Manifestation
1. Tongues as a sign to unbelievers. 1 Corinthians 14:22 (NKJV) 22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
1. Tongues as a sign to unbelievers. Example: Acts 2 When the devout Jewish men came and heard them in their own native language they were amazed.
2. Tongues for Interpretation 1 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV) 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
2. Tongues for Interpretation These Tongues are Heavenly Languages that are not spoken anywhere on the earth and have to be interpreted always.
Difference of the Two One is for the Unbeliever; and the other is for the Believer.
3. Tongues for Personal Prayer 1 Corinthians 14:14–15 (NKJV) 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
Tongues for a sign are intended to reach out and minister to the unbeliever; tongues for interpretation are intended to minister to the believer. In the above passage, Paul is no longer talking about public ministry but personal prayer time.
4. Tongues for Intercession Romans 8:26–27 (NKJV) 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Simply put, our weakness is that we have limited understanding of what is going on in our world, but when we rely on and intercede in the Spirit, He prays the perfect will of God through us.
Conclusion 1 Corinthians 14:39–40 (NKJV) 39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
The Holy Spirit is the One who has been sent to empower the Church The Holy Spirit is the One who has been sent to empower the Church. God has chosen His church as the vehicle by which He advances His kingdom. If we do not wake up to the power that comes with our position in Christ, we will be no different than a king who refuses to wield the power of his throne.
Tongues have not passed away Tongues have not passed away. God’s heart is clearly shown in 1 Corinthians 14:5: “I wish you all spoke with tongues Never forget that the gift of tongues is a vital aspect of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit as well as a beautiful part of our intimate relationship with God.
