Spelling , Punctuation and Grammar workshop SPaG Corrie Primary School Spelling , Punctuation and Grammar workshop SPaG
At Corrie Primary School.... We believe that the focussed teaching of spelling, punctuation and grammar will enable each child to arrange words in sentences, add the correct punctuation thus helping them to communicate their ideas effectively. We teach the meaning of word groups in order to give the children these fundamental skills to develop and improve their writing. Spelling is incorporated into the Guided Reading, Literacy lessons and Phonics lessons. The children have weekly SPaG lessons this is presented in different ways depending on the year group.

How do we do this ?
How do we teach SPaG? In Nursery – the children cover the Phase 1 of Phonics : Phase One of Letters and Sounds concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills. Phase 1 is divided into seven aspects. Each aspect contains three strands: Tuning in to sounds (auditory discrimination), Listening and remembering sounds (auditory memory and sequencing) and Talking about sounds.
