Century 21 Computer Skills and Applications Cycle 1: Unit 12 Lessons 59 – 64
Lesson 59 Outcomes Worksheets Key data, move around in a worksheet, and print a worksheet. Unit 12: Lesson 59
Spreadsheet Software Used to record, report, analyze information Make repetitive calculations accurately, quickly, easily Numbers added, subtracted, multiplied, divided Formulas perform calculations quickly, accurately Charts present information graphically Advantage: When a number is changed, all related “answers” are automatically recalculated. Unit 12: Lesson 59
Worksheets/Workbooks One spreadsheet computer file Where you key information Workbook Contains one or more worksheets Worksheets appear as sheet tabs at bottom of screen Unit 12: Lesson 59
Excel Worksheet Unit 12: Lesson 59
Move Around in Worksheet To move active cell: One or more cells to left, right, up, or down – use arrow keys From one spot to another quickly – use keyboard shortcuts Active cell Unit 12: Lesson 59
Key Labels and Values Data keyed into cell is automatically assigned either label or value status. Unit 12: Lesson 59
Gridlines and Headings Gridlines – cell borders Headings – row numbers, column letters Default setting: Gridlines/headings displayed on monitor Gridlines/headings not printed Unit 12: Lesson 59
Lesson 60 Outcomes Edit Worksheets Select a range of cells and edit, clear, copy, and move information in a worksheet. Unit 12: Lesson 60
Select/Edit To select (activate) cell: To edit: Click cell. Option 1 Double-click desired cell. Use mouse, navigation keys, Font group buttons, etc., to make changes. Option 2 Click desired cell once. Make changes in formula bar. Unit 12: Lesson 60
Clear/Delete Clear command Delete command Clears content or format of cell or both Surrounding cells NOT shifted to replace cleared cell. Delete command Deletes content and format of cell Surrounding cells ARE shifted to replace cleared cell. Unit 12: Lesson 60
Select Range Range of cells To select range: Select to perform operation on more than one cell at a time. Identified by cell in upper-left corner and cell in lower-right corner Usually separated by colon Example: A5:C10 To select range: Highlight cell in top-left corner. Hold down left mouse button. Drag to cell in opposite corner. Unit 12: Lesson 60
Cut, Copy, Move Select cell or range of cells to be cut/copied. Select operation (Cut or Copy). Select cell (or first cell in range) where information is to be copied/moved. Click Paste to copy/move information. Unit 12: Lesson 60
Lesson 61 Outcomes Format Worksheets Format cell contents, adjust column widths, and insert/delete columns and rows. Unit 12: Lesson 61
Insert/Delete Row and columns can be inserted/deleted. One or more can be inserted at a time. Columns may be added at left or within worksheet. Rows may be added at top or within worksheet. Unit 12: Lesson 61
Format Numbers Numbers default = General To change format: Use command in Number group. Choose format from Number Format list. Click More Number Formats option at bottom of Number Format list. Unit 12: Lesson 61
Format Cell Content Commands in Font group can be selected and applied to cell. Use Font dialog box launcher to access Font tab for additional formatting features. Use Cell Styles command in Styles group to format cell content. Unit 12: Lesson 61
Lesson 62 Outcomes Worksheets with Formulas and Functions Use formulas and functions to perform calculations in a worksheet. Unit 12: Lesson 62
Formulas Begin with an equals sign (=) Order of operations: Calculations inside parentheses performed first before those outside parentheses. Multiplication and division performed next in order that they occur in formula. Addition and subtraction performed last in order of occurrence. Unit 12: Lesson 62
Function Parts Equals sign signals beginning of mathematical operation. Function name identifies operation. Argument defines numbers to be used in calculation. Unit 12: Lesson 62
Lesson 63 Outcomes Worksheets with Charts Create embedded column, bar, and pie charts using worksheet information. Unit 12: Lesson 63
Charts Can be created as: Embedded chart Chart sheet Pie Chart Column Chart Bar Chart Unit 12: Lesson 63
Charts Additional types: Chart types can be changed. Line charts Area charts Doughnut charts Chart types can be changed. Area Chart Doughnut Chart Line Chart Unit 12: Lesson 63
Column Chart with Axis Titles Chart Layouts/Styles Change chart layout and styles Titles Data labels Gridlines Legend Chart styles Column Chart with Axis Titles and Chart Style Unit 12: Lesson 63
