LAB TIME! Pre Lab 16 out, please (and laptop out for later) Calculate the solubility of strontium phosphate in pure water: Ksp of Sr3(PO4)2 = 1 x 10-31 Answer:

Lab 16 Pre-lab Check Off Work time – BE VERY CAREFUL to not mess up Excel sheet should be printed off and in lab book when it is correct Work time – BE VERY CAREFUL to not mess up 27 pipettes needed (don’t contaminate!) Use one for Ca(NO3)2 and NaOH stock solutions, and water CLEAN VERY WELL without brush (only soap and water), otherwise the well plates will be ruined Rinse at end with DI water If you finish and are cleaned up – start lab write-up! ALL in lab book, legibly written

Recommendation for Pipettes Use one for each well (to mix after serial dilution and at end)

Review time! (Jan 11) Out on your desk: Today’s plan: Winter Break Review Packet Notes Today’s plan: More PES and Internuclear Distance Practice Commonly missed exam qs Winter Break Review Questions and Discussion More Practice! HW: Ksp Lab 16 and short Webassign done for Monday, finish review WS from class today by next week as you have time before we review for the second part of exam

PES: What is this element? Mg.

PES: photoelectron spectroscopy Identify the following element by its PES: Where is the peak from the 1s orbital? K (that little peak is the 4s1)

PES: photoelectron spectroscopy What is wrong with this diagram? Wrong: Ne third peak (lowest E) should be taller because it is the 2p6 electrons, and the other are only 2 electrons each. Explain why the 1s energy is so different for the PES’ of Ne and He

Internuclear Distance A plot of potential energy versus distance as two atoms come together in a bond. Sketch this and we will label it 

Internuclear Distance

Internuclear Distance

More practice – Review WS! Homework if not finished by the end of the period – done by next week for review for exam part 2 I will put Key to the Winter Break Review on Moodle. It’s up to you to check it and ask more questions if you are confused!

Homework Day 7 Webassign Equilibrium 2 due Monday by 8am Lab 16 due Monday in class – Hand written calculations and conclusion qs in your lab book. EXPLAIN WELL! Read 16.1 if not already read! REVIEW stuff: check keys to winter break packet, keep working on review questions MC WS I gave you today
