Microsoft Lync

What is it? Microsoft’s Unified Communications platform Three pillars of functionality including Instant Messaging, Presence, and Conferencing

Instant Messaging Lync client is used as the primary application Allows for instant message conversations between any users that have the client Federation between Pitt, Skype, and other organizations that run Lync

Pictures New tool is available in My Pitt (my.pitt.edu) to allow you to add a photo to the directory You have the option of using your ID Center Photo or a custom upload Photo is visible in Lync, Outlook, SharePoint and other directory-aware applications.

Presence Let others know your availability Available, Away, In a meeting, Out of the office…. Integration with Outlook and SharePoint Extensible and could be added other places

Conferencing Allows for point-to-point or multi-party conferencing with Lync or non-Lync users IM, Audio, Video and Web Conferencing are all options Web Conferencing supports desktop sharing, white boards, polls, and presentations Supports ad-hoc or scheduled meetings

Conferencing Meetings can become online meetings with the click of a button in Outlook Web-based scheduler available for non- Outlook users

Pitt Deployment Solution is available to everyone at Pitt No cost Users requiring dial-in conferencing for meetings they host will need to set up an additional component. Cost is 7 cents per minute per line. (VoIP connected users are free.)

WebEx We have contacted existing Web Conferencing subscribers They will have option of using Lync or contacting us to transition to a departmental arrangement with WebEx
