There is one final trend I want to talk about Electronegativity On the following slide is a periodic table with the electronegativities of all the elements. On the same piece of paper with the other explanations, I want you to identify the patterns in a group and a period and offer an explanation as to why this might be the case.

Electronegativity

What is the deal with electronegativity? Electronegativity is the desire of an atom to hold onto its electrons. It tells us how well it attracts electrons. Is there a link between the ability of an atom to become an ion and the electronegativity of the atom? Can this help us predict which atoms become ions?

Electronegativity I want you to add all of the electronegativities to your periodic table

Using your knowledge of my tests……. You are going to write your own. I want you do create a test using the SAT II questions and write four or five short answer questions. Your goal is to get inside my head. You will be given a set of the multiple choice questions you should be using to study. I want you to create a test that has 8-10 matching, 3-5 True, false, and 15-20 mc, and 4 or 5 short answers. You should try to have questions of varying difficulty. Some should be easy, some should be hard. The harder questions generally require you to apply what you have learned in a new and off putting way you have never seen before.
