Today’s Experiment Exp. No. : 01 Name of the Experiment: Familiarization with lab equipment's of electrical circuit lab and measurement of voltage, current, power for both AC and DC supply. AJI 9/16/2018

Task ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! AC DC 9/16/2018 AJI

AC

AC Alternating current describes the flow of charge that changes direction periodically. As a result, the voltage level also reverses along with the current. 9/16/2018 AJI

AC 9/16/2018 AJI

DC 9/16/2018 AJI

Task ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! How can you measure these AC or DC voltage or Current??? 9/16/2018 AJI

AVO meter, Commercially called Commonly used Electric Meters Ammeter Voltmeter Wattmeter AVO meter, Commercially called Multimeter 9/16/2018 AJI

Ammeter Types: 1. DC Ammeter 2. AC Ammeter Measures The amount of Current flow through the circuit Types: 1. DC Ammeter 2. AC Ammeter 9/16/2018 AJI

Schematic Diagram of Ammeter Ammeter Should always be connected in Series with Load 9/16/2018 AJI

Multimeter/AVO meter A multimeter is a device used to measure voltage, resistance and current in electronics & electrical equipment. It is also used to test continuity between to 2 points to verify if there is any breaks in circuit or line. There are two types of multimeter Analog & Digital Analog has a needle style gauge Digital has a LCD display 9/16/2018 AJI

Multimeter/AVO meter 9/16/2018 AJI

Multimeter/AVO meter Red meter lead Is connected to Voltage/Resistance or amperage port and Is considered the positive connection Black meter lead Is always connected to the common port and Is considered the negative connection Probes Are the handles used to hold tip on the tested connection Tips Are at the end of the probe and provides a connection point 9/16/2018 AJI

Rheostat It is an adjustable or variable resistor. It is used to control the electrical resistance of a circuit without interrupting the flow of current. Rheostat has 3 terminals and usually consist of a resistive wire wrapped to form a toroid coil with a wiper that slides along the surface of the coil. 9/16/2018 AJI

Capacitor A capacitor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores electrical energy in an electric field. The effect of a capacitor is known as capacitance. 9/16/2018 AJI

Ballast An electrical ballast is a device placed in line with the load to limit the amount of current in an electrical circuit. It may be a fixed or variable resistor. A familiar and widely used example is the inductive ballast used in fluorescent lamps to limit the current through the tube, which would otherwise rise to a destructive level due to the negative differential resistance artifact in the tube's voltage-current characteristic. 9/16/2018 AJI
