Prefix: in-, im- Definition: not; opposite of Derivatives: indifferent, insecure, impossible, immature Which other prefixes have similar meanings? (Answer: un, ir, non, a, dis) Each of these examples belongs to which part of speech? (verb, noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, etc.)

Prefix: intra- Definition: inside, within Derivatives: intramurals, intravenous

Prefix: sub- Definition: under, beneath, less than Derivatives: submarine, subservient, subway

Root: hydr Definition: pertaining to water Derivatives: hydrogen, hydrologic cycle

Root: phyll Definition: pertaining to leaves Derivatives: Phyllomorphosis – the study of the transformations of leaves during different seasons Chlorophyll – the green chemical in leaves which is responsible for photosynthesis
