Principles of Business and Finance Mrs. Harris Welcome Principles of Business and Finance Mrs. Harris

Be on time (in your seat with all your materials by the “tardy” bell) Be respectful to me, your classmates & any visitors – do NOT interrupt class FOOD / DRINKS / are not allowed in the class. You may have water. I do not want any “visitors” Review of the posters, word wall and white boards Classroom Rules

Computers and the Internet In this class, you may need to use the Internet for certain assignments. When computers are allowed it is not a free for all. Please do not assume that you may go to music sites and listen to your music. Ask first. You must have headphones. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc. I recommend a flash drive. In theory items are stored under your log in but this is no guarantee. Computers and the Internet

Acceptable Use Form/ Photo Consent You need to get the Acceptable Use form signed by end of the week or you will be prohibited from computer use. Acceptable Use Form/ Photo Consent

School Policies Fire Drill procedures- Listen Carefully Tardy Policy (in your seat by the time the bell rings) I will lock the door as instructed and you will be caught in a hall sweep. Cell Phones … If I see they are mine. If I don’t well……Use your discretion on this matter. Bathroom ****You are allowed 4 passes each quarter No passes will be given during the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of class Only 1 student out at a time If you take an extended break, it will take away from 1-4 of your passes Attendance- Yes it matters. School Policies

Classroom Procedures Entering the classroom Printer usage- You must ask. Hole Puncher, Stapler, Pencil Sharpener Teacher area (what’s mine is mine). Please respect my space. Exiting the classroom (after it is clean) and straighten desks. If computers are used that day. They must be all plugged back in before anyone leaves or the privilege will be loss. Classroom Procedures

Classroom Policy Sheet These handouts gives you and your parents an overview of my rules, grading procedures, and consequences for breaking rules. Some of these handouts must be returned, signed by a parent or guardian. These are also posted on my webpage Classroom Policy Sheet

Student Information Sheets This sheet needs to be filled out and returned to me. Please provide your contact information. You need to complete neatly. Student Information Sheets

Success is very important in business and the real world (it goes beyond trying) Learn from your mistakes Stay seated until I dismiss you. We DO NOT line up by the door. No talking when I am talking. Your grade is equal to your effort! Expectations

It isn’t hard, but you are expected to complete any and all classwork It isn’t hard, but you are expected to complete any and all classwork. You are given ample time to complete. If you do not finish it become homework due the next day. Your notes (in a notebook). I don’t mind if you share with other classes but mine must be kept neat. I may check these… you never know. Classwork

Notes and Tests: I love graphic organizers. I refer to them as “Bubble Sheets” if I self make them. Most units come with nice neat sheets for you to take notes on. I EXPECT you to take notes. In the past most of the test have been OPEN NOTES. If you do not take notes….what would you use!

How do I pass this course? Care about your learning Actively take notes during class Listen during the lectures. I do not like for you to put your head down. Ask questions and paraphrase what you’ve heard. If you do not get it….ASK questions. Review your notes right after the lecture How do I pass this course?

Adult Behavior is required This will be a safe and quiet classroom You will sit quietly when I am talking and when I am covering information for the whole class – Learn to listen to instructions You are required to control your emotions and behavior appropriately (neither you or I may share a bad day with the rest of us) You are to come in and sit in your assigned seat and be ready to start when the bell rings Hall and Bathroom passes are optional (preemptive stops BEFORE class are best) Adult Behavior is required

Adult Behavior continued Trust me to know what is best for the class. You may not agree with me nor I with you but we will respect each other. You can earn considerable freedoms in this class, you can also lose them Following the rules earns you a right to “ask” for a special favor when you REALLY need it (you get to ask) Adult Behavior continued

Adult Behavior continued Don’t pick fights with teachers, you will probably have to ask for a favor later Since you are in my classes, your behavior in other classes reflects on me, make it positive You make the choice to go to ISS/OSS Think before you act or speak The learning of my other students takes priority over your bad day Learning takes priority over almost everything, don’t waste our time Adult Behavior continued

Important things to know Do NOT interrupt my class Do not stand around the door or look out into the hall Do not leave the classroom without my permission Always KEEP the graded papers I return to you I have high expectations for my students Don’t confuse tolerance for weakness Learn what works for you (what kind of student are you?) Important things to know

Important things to know (continued) Grades are mostly based on the success of your work, not the effort Test are 55% of grade and all CW is 45%. If we have group projects every person must participate. I will allow you to choose your own groups as long as this is not an issue. You will have time in class to work on projects, papers, reports and assignments, don’t waste it. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK Important things to know (continued)

Important things to know (continued) When you are absent, you are responsible for any missed work. All of my notes and PowerPoints are located on my webpage. You are expected to keep up with the class when you are absent. If you are absent on a scheduled test day you must take the test on the day that you return. If handouts are given I will place your name on the paper and put in your class bin. I give one copy of assignments. I strongly suggest you get a notebook and keep it organized. Important things to know (continued)

Any Questions?
