Acute lobar pneumonia with fibrinous pleurisy(48) Inflammation Acute lobar pneumonia with fibrinous pleurisy(48) Section in the lung showing: The alveolar wall is thick, edematous with dilated congested blood vessels. All the alveoli contain fibrin threads and polymorphs, histiocytes and red blood cells (fibrinous exudate). On the surface the pleura is thickened by a network of fibrin threads entangling polymorphs.

Allergic Nasal Polyp (2) Inflammation Allergic Nasal Polyp (2) Acute Lobar Pneumonia Ulceration Allergic Nasal Polyp polyp Acute Suppurative Appendicitis Eosinophils Acute Suppurative meningitis Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis

Allergic Nasal Polyp (2) Inflammation Allergic Nasal Polyp (2) Section shows: A benign polypoid lesion covered by focally ulcerated pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium(respiratory epithelium) The connective tissue core shows edema, congested thin walled blood vessels and inflammatory infiltrate rich in eosinophils. Back to Slide

Acute Suppurative Appendicitis (3) Inflammation Acute Suppurative Appendicitis (3) Acute Lobar Pneumonia Ulceration Allergic Nasal Polyp Acute Suppurative Appendicitis Polymorphs &pus cells Acute Suppurative meningitis Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis Hyperplastic lymphoid follicles

Acute Suppurative Appendicitis (3) Inflammation Acute Suppurative Appendicitis (3) Section in appendix showing: The lumen contains suppurative exudate. The mucosa is focally ulcerated. The lymphoid follicles are hyperplastic. There is transmural infiltration with polymorphs and pus cells. Submucosa and serosa show dilated congested blood vessels. The peritoneum shows suppurative peritonitis Back to Slide

Acute Suppurative Meningitis (4) (Demo) Inflammation Acute Suppurative Meningitis (4) (Demo) Acute Lobar Pneumonia Subarachnoid space Congested blood vessel Allergic Nasal Polyp Acute Suppurative Appendicitis Oedematous brain tissue Suppurative exudate Acute Suppurative meningitis Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis

Acute Suppurative Meningitis (4) Inflammation Acute Suppurative Meningitis (4) Section in brain tissue with overlying leptomeninges ( Pia and arachnoid ) showing: The subarachnoid space is replaced by suppurative inflammatory exudate . It is formed of fibrin network densly infiltrated by polymorphnuclear leucocytes & pus cells . The submeningeal blood vessels are dilated & congested . The brain tissue at the surface is slightly oedematous and congested .

Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis (1) (Demo) Inflammation Acute Lobar Pneumonia Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis (1) (Demo) Myocardium Allergic Nasal Polyp Pericardium Thickened pericardium Acute Suppurative Appendicitis Fibrin threads Acute Suppurative meningitis Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis

Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis (1) Inflammation Acute Fibrinous Pericarditis (1) Section reveals myocardium with overlying thickened pericrdium: The subserosal layer is thickened , oedematous & shows moderae infiltration by PMN, few pus cells and histiocytes . Thin walled blood vessels are seen . The surface covered by irregular layers of fibrin theads entangling some acute inflammatory cells.
