Assignment For the next couple of days, we will look at quotes from Alice in Wonderland and related novels. You will become the illustrator! Use your skills to design and illustrate a scene! You may use the Chromebook to look up quotes, but we are not listening to music or playing games.

Today’s Goal Choose a scene to illustrate. In your notebook, copy the quote you want to reference. Underneath, draw a few small, sloppy sketches of ideas you might use. You may also look at novels that are inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Alice-related books Alice’s Adventures Through Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor Splintered by A. G. Howard Otherland by Tad Williams

Superintendent’s Visual Arts Exhibit Deadline for entries January 16, 2017. 5 students each from DJHS, CJHS, and EHS may submit work. Winning entries will be displayed in the Alabama State Capitol. Work must be original and unique (i.e.: I can’t accept multiple entries from the same assignment.)

Warm Up: Day 2 Write the following definitions on the bottom half of your notes page: 1. Thumbnails—In art, small practice sketches that help the artist plan out a project. 2. Illustration—Art that refers to a written work. 3. Abstract—Type of art that doesn’t try to look like anything from the real world.

Today’s Goal You should have a quote from Alice in Wonderland or a related work. Today, you will begin your artwork. Let me know if you need something not at your station. Try to make your quote and image work together. For example—you can use a quote to frame your drawing.

Wrap Up You will not be here Friday, so our finished art is due tomorrow! Trash—Make a lap around the table and make sure it is clean! Supplies—Put away drawing tools. Papers—If anyone wants to leave their drawing here, take it up and put it on the rack.

Day 3: Warm Up In the upper right column of your notes, write “Salvador Dali (1904-1989).” Write the following statements: 1. _________ century Spanish artist. 2. Associated with the _______________ art movement. 3. Illustrated Alice in Wonderland in 1969.
